Soil Sampling

Our soil is our livelihood. Viewing it as more than just dirt makes it easier for us to practice better care. It challenges us to make more responsible decisions that will in turn benefit the environment as a whole. Upholding each new and improved crop variety better than the season before is no small feat. We need to take the proper measures to ensure we are putting back into the soil what each crop takes out. A consistent and effective soil sampling plan enables us to stay on top of our soils activity. Making it a safer host for the crops to come.

The Ongoing Debate. To Zero Till.. Or not?

Saving. Wherever we can. To treat zero till practice as either black or white in Central Alberta has proven extremely difficult. We are home to some of the most diverse soil conditions in the country. We need to stop looking at zero tilling as an “all or nothing” ordeal, and start placing it where it fits. Taking on the mindset to hone our focus and begin to farm each acre individually will allow us to do just that. The long term benefits make sense, and in time, they will resonate from the soil to the farmer.

Precision Seed Placement

When the success of a crop is determined by what it yields overall, there’s a lot riding on seed to soil contact. An even germination is a vital key in a short growing season. How each seed is placed and at what depth depending on the year isn’t something to leave to chance. It is our job to do everything in our power to see each plant thrive to maturity. Because underneath big success… lies a series of small victories.
